Passive Backplanes

Passive Backplanes

A wide range of Advantech backplanes are available for PICMG single board computers (SBC). They range from four to twenty slots, and allow optimal system configurations with flexible combinations of 64-bit/32-bit PCI and ISA slots. Advantech also provides a low-cost, yet professional design service that tailors backplanes to meet expansion requirements within a short time frame.

PICMG 1.3 Full-Size SHB Backplanes

Advantech’s SHB Express (PICMG 1.3) design policy provides clear guidelines that ensure system compatibility. Customers can easily recognize specific solutions based on product naming. For example, server grade PCE-7XXX SHB are compatible with PCE-7BXX backplanes. Mainstream PCE-5XXX SHB are compatible with PCE-5BXX backplanes. This precise naming policy help prevent incompatible SHB and SHB Express backplane combinations.

Remote I/O Modules

Advantech is a global leader in Data acquisition I/O module design and manufacturing, offering complete stand-alone data acquisition modules which are broadly used in industrial applications, such as facility monitoring, environment monitoring, and industrial process control. Advantech Distributed I/O modules are categorized into two families, Ethernet I/O (ADAM-6000 series) and RS-485 I/O (ADAM-4000 series), which are subdivided into Analog I/O and Digital I/O modules with some of them supporting modbus communication protocol.

RS-485 I/O Modules: ADAM-4000

ADAM-4000 modules are the perfect choice for establishing a cost-effective remote I/O system. Customers can benefit from ADAM-4000 modules through its simple wiring --- using only two wires to communicate with their controller or other RS-485 devices. ADAM-4000 modules use the EIA RS-485 communication protocol; the industry's most widely used bi-directional, balanced transmission line suitable for industrial environments.

Robust Remote I/O Modules

ADAM-4100 series I/O modules are compact and versatile sensor-to-computer interface units. They are designed for reliable operation in harsh environments, and can operate normally in wide temperatures from -40 to 85° C, with wide power input and resistance against noise-interference.



 
 

Controller Modules

ADAM-4000 controllers include the ADAM-4500 and ADAM-4501 series. The ADAM-4501/4501D are compact Ethernet-enabled controllers with an x86 CPU architecture. They support not only an Ethernet interface but also serial ports. The Ethernet-enabled features include built-in HTTP Server, FTP Server and email alarm functions. The modularized I/O design provides high flexibility for versatile application requirements.

Analog I/O Modules

Analog input modules supply many kinds of the sources, such like thermocouple, RTD, Thermistor or general analog signals. These modules use the EIA RS-485 communication protocol, the industry’s most widely used bi-directional, balanced transmission line standard. They also support the Modbus/RTU protocol as the remote data transmission mechanism. Analog output modules can provide 1 channel to 4 channels to satisfy many kinds of application.

Ethernet I/O Modules: ADAM-6000

In the past, integrating automation and enterprise systems required changing the entire architecture of the control system. Nowadays, Advantech ADAM-6000 accomplishes this integration easily through the latest internet technology, so that it can remotely monitor the device status more flexibly. Advantech’s ADAM-6000 modules are empowered by Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and Graphic Condition Logic (GCL), and can perform as standalone products for measurement, control and automation. With Advantech’s P2P and GCL technology, no additional controllers or programming is needed. With the easy-to-use and intuitive graphic utility, system configurations can be done in an extremely short time. The members of ADAM-6000 series include Communication Controllers, Analog Input/Output Modules and Digital Input/Output Modules.

Analog Input/Output Modules

The analog input modules use microprocessor-controlled, high resolution, 16-bit, sigma-delta A/D converters to acquire sensor signals such as voltage, current, thermocouple or RTD.

Digital Input/Ouput Modules

The digital input/output channels provide three operational modes, with each channel able to set its operational mode independently. The counter/frequency module offers two 32-bit counter channels and a built-in programmable timer for frequency measurement. The relay module offers six isolated digital input channels and six isolated relay channels.

Automation Controllers

Advantech provides two different types of controllers with respective I/O modules for versatile applications, PC-based Controllers and Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC). The PC-based controllers are open development environment interface; the PACs are a single platform with multi-disciplined controller functionalities.

PC-based Controllers & I/O Modules

Advantech’s PC-based Controllers provide an open development environment with optional support for software like SoftLogic and HMI/SCADA. Advantech’s PC-based controllers have two different product lines, one is APAX-5000 series, and the other is ADAM-5000 series. The APAX-5000 series provides an open development architecture, high computing CPUs (APAX-5570XPE/5571XPE), and flexible I/O functions that increase the control system’s scalability and flexibility to fulfill the various needs of industrial applications. The ADAM-5000 series offers two different data acquisition and control systems to allow field I/O devices to easily connect to PC network applications, ADAM-5000 and ADAM-5510.

APAX-5000 Series

Advantech's APAX-5000 series provides an open development architecture and integrates control, information processing, and networking in a single control system. APAX-5000 series features dual controllers for different tasks, making it superior to other PAC products in the market. APAX-5000 series versatility, flexibility and scalability can fully satisfy complicated automation industry needs. Serial Converter and Repeaters

Most industrial computer systems come with standard RS-232 serial ports. Though widely accepted, RS-232 has limited transmission speed, range and networking capabilities. The RS-422/485 standards overcome these limitations by using differential voltage lines for data and control signals. The Serial Media Converters provide conversion between serial networks and other media. They can transparently convert RS-232 signals to RS-422/485 signals, as well as wireless and fiber optic signals.

RS-422/485 Repeaters

Most industrial computer systems come with standard RS-232 serial ports. Though widely accepted, RS-232 has limited transmission speed, range and networking capabilities. The RS-422/485 standards overcome these limitations by using differential voltage lines for data and control signals. The RS-422/485 repeater simply amplifies, or boosts, existing RS-422/485 signals to enable them to cover longer distances. It extends the communication distance by 1200m (4,000 ft.) or increases the maximum number of connected nodes by 32.

RS-232/422/485 Converters

The serial media converters provide conversion between serial networks and other media. RS-232/422/485 to Fiber Optic Converters
